Frimley Green salvaged a draw from this entertaining game at Tilford.
Tilford captain Martin Cantwell won the toss and elected to bat, and saw his openers score some quickfire runs; Slinger in particular taking a liking to a few balls from Julian Bland, and hammering them for big sixes into the car park. FGCC fought back hard, though, David Huggett bowling well to take 2 wickets, despite seeing 5 dropped catches from his bowling. With Nick Gates bowling Slinger, and Shahid Hussain keeping things tight, Frimley Green chipped away at the batting. Rus Edmonds bowled dangerman Cantwell, and Jon Prior took 3 quick wickets, to leave Tilford with a total of 208/9 declared.
FGCC's reply got off to a good start, with Antony Johnson and Jon Prior putting on 41, before Johnson unfortunately slammed a ball straight into the hands of cover. Noel Long was unlucky to be adjudged LBW for a quickfire 15, and Mike McAuliffe's cameo of 22 included a magnificent six into the car park. Tim Jones and Gordon Marsh then put on an encouraging stand, before Jones was bowled by Cantwell to effectively end the run chase. Once Shahid Hussain and Nick Gates were out things looked dicey, but Gordon Marsh stuck around until he finally lost his stumps with only 11 balls remaining. With the light fading, David Huggett and Julian Bland saw off the Tilford bowling to secure a hard-fought draw.
