Patient batting and disciplined fielding was the order of the day as FGCC again defeated a spirited Walton on Thames side at Frimley Lodge Park. Winning the toss and electing to bat on a pleasant day, FGCC started tentatively as Antony Johnson departed for a Golden Duck. Rich and Tim played carefully and sensibly to put on a strong 50 partnership, with runs hard to come by on a grassy track. With Walton chopping and changing their bowlers, FGCC found it hard to maintain a high run-rate, and once Rich had been dismissed for a hard-earned 37, FGCC had hit 60-2 at the halfway stage. This accelerated only slightly thereafter, with Gordy contributing 18 and Russ blasting the final ball of the innings for 4 to leave FGCC posting 144 off their 40 overs, thanks mainly to Tim's patient 51. In reply, Walton seemed keen to steal the initiative, and after a couple of early thwacks El Presidente snagged opener DeJesus, caught behind by stand-in keeper Tim. After Rich's stunning one-handed catch in the next over to get rid of Vargo, Walton on Thames steadied the ship, and it was only after a fine spell of bowling by Rich and a direct hit by Nick Gates from point to run out T.Richards that FGCC started to assume the ascendancy. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, and with some tight bowling in the face of a run chase towards the end, it was left to Gates to bowl last man Clark off the 5th-to-last ball to wrap up the game and a good win for FGCC.
