Frimley Green Cricket Club (158/5) beat Eversley (157/6) by 5 wickets
Rich Loosley
JP's delicious 4 through mid-off - just what was needed with the run chase looking beyond FGCC's reach.
A last-minute addition to the fixture list didn't deter FGCC from pulling off their first win of 2012, thanks largely to a fantastic contribution from Rich Loosley.
Fielding 3 debutants and with the returning Jules a welcome addition to the side, FGCC lost the toss on a track that traditionally turns out to be a batsman's paradise (according to the 'local knowledge'). And in the early overs of their innings Eversley proved this point, hitting boundaries for fun until a fine run out thanks to a good chase down to Third Man by Mike Parry saw opener Brooks depart. From then until after drinks the runs dried up significantly, with Rich and FGCC new boy Owen Stanford keeping things tight. A really determined display in the field, coupled with some good bowling at the death saw Eversley end on 157-6 - just under 4 an over.
In reply Eversley's bowlers were faced with a slow and low pitch, and exploited this by testing the FGCC batsmen with a barrage of accurate, medium-pace deliveries. Dave departed to one that hardly bounced, Ants looped one to Extra Cover after playing himself in, and DJ Talent lasted 2 balls. However, Rich continued in a stay of defiance, skillfully putting away the bad deliveries to the boundary, and ably assisted by Messers Curran, Prior and Barker, fittingly hit the winning runs with 6 balls to spare to end on a magnificent unbeaten 93 and deliver a result which at one point looked to be somewhat in the balance.
