Old Leightonians vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 17th September 2017, 13:00
Old Leightonians (123 all out) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (96 all out) by 27 runs
Match Detail
Once again FGCC's recent batting woes saw a 3rd defeat in a row, despite of the bowling attack putting them in a great position over new opposition in the form of Old Leightonians in this 35 over game. With the start delayed due to being locked out of the ground (this game was played at Holyport CC - not sure, but playing on a neutral pitch may be a first for FGCC), Jim lost the toss and was invited to bowl, which given the overcast skies and well-played-on pitch wasn't a bad call to lose. Not that this deterred OLCC openers Gillmor and Hayles, both of whom started well until Rus had Gillmor bowled. Cue the spin twins Jim and debutant Sunny, who between them took 4 wickets on a pitch that favoured slower bowling. Or at least this was until Anam came on to bowl, who after keeping wicket for the opening 20 overs decided to turn his arm over and ended up clearing up the tail in next-to-no time for another 5-fer. With FGCC facing a modest 124 to win, the innings dragged along at a run-an-over until Ants and Suresh decided to play a couple of expansive shots. With the game in the balance at the mid-way point Anam came in and smacked two huge 6s, one into a neighbouring field. However when he was caught and bowled by Powers it signalled a tail-end collapse, and when Jim skied his 4th ball back to the bowler with 4 overs still to go FGCC's chance to break their recent losing streak was scuppered. A nice afternoon's cricket, played in the right spirit against some very hospitable opposition - hopefully a better result if and when the two sides meet again.

Champagne Moment
:
Vamsi's improvised one-handed nurdle down to fine leg - a shot which no-one (let alone the batsman) expected
