Match Detail
In perhaps one of the most unbelievable victories in the club's history, a record 10th wicket partnership between Anurag and Sheshi saw FGCC snatch victory from the jaws of a humbling defeat in this timed game. Losing the toss and being invited to bowl on a flat pitch on a baking hot but slightly cloudy day, a few of Anam and Sheshi's early deliveries were steered expertly to the boundary by OHMCC openers Mumford and Bahbra, using the pace of Anam to gain quick runs. That all ended when Anam had Mumford caught by Ajay at short mid-off, although the runs kept flowing until change bowlers Anurag and Dean came on and took a scalp each. Anurag continued bowling a good line and ended up with club-best figures in a very tight spell, and having got into the Ottershaw batting it was once again the stoical batting of OHMCC captain Steve Clarke (who made a fine 36*) who proved the toughest nut to crack. With Anu, Sheshi and finally Anam (bowling spin faster than most other's seaming deliveries) mopping up Ottershaw's innings closed on a more-than-respectable 213. In reply FGCC's top order was all over the shop, Mumford taking 4 scalps as FGCC slumped to 56-5. It wasn't until Dean and then Anam (with another lightning-fast 50) decided to carve into the bowling attack.that things started to get going, but once Anam fell by getting bowled off an attempted switch-hit things were looking bleak at 143-9. Cue Sheshi and Anurag, hoping initially to just play out for a draw. However, as time ticked along a very unlikely result appeared on the cards, and when Mumford's 10th over was smacked by Anurag for 3 4s FGCC suddenly found themselves needing 11 runs from 12 balls. This then became 4 from 6, and when Sheshi played Mumford's 1st delivery of his 12th over past him and through mid-off for 4 the 10th wicket team not only secured a record-breaking unbroken 71 partnership but also the most unlikely of victories.
