Another Sunday, another close defeat for FGCC in a game which at one point could have gone either way.
Electing to bat under clearing skies on a belter of a track for batsmen, Jim tweaked his batting order a little given some late arrivals, however it was largely thanks to Mark's well-made 42 that the run rate was up to 5 an over by drinks. Pavan and Suresh came together and made exactly 50 between them for the 6th wicket, Pavan bringing up his first 50 for FGCC with some fine hitting during the partnership. With Anam and Rich getting out cheaply a score that looked at one point like it might reach a-run-a-ball never quite materialised, and when Jim was stumped in rather mysterious circumstances (wandered out of his crease when he thought over had been called), FGCC's innings ended 4 overs prematurely on 203.
In reply Hook's captain Simpson and no.3 Day made FGCC suffer until Anu had both caught. With Anam chipping in with a couple Hook were 102-4 at drinks, but then straight after the resumption J Webster and A Brown (the latter making 50 before retiring) went to town and took the bowling to task. Despite some late excitement - a run out off Jim's bowling and Watterson's stumps being wrecked by Aaakash, a 4 off the first ball of Suresh's over saw Hook reach their target with just under 5 overs and two wickets to spare.
