Dave's stunning diving, two-handed catch to dismiss Hawley's very dangerous-looking opening bat.
To actually get a game in the first place against Hawley was a feat in itself, given the weather and the fact that only a handful of regular FGCC players were available. Luckily Amit Gupta managed to round up some friends and work colleagues, and it was thanks to their value input that FGCC put up such a spirited fight in the face of a talented Hawley side.
Choosing to bat, FGCC started slowly, losing Dave and Tim early and with the returning Graeme Fleming lasting 3 balls without troubling the scorers, the score read 24-3 after 12 overs. A fightback then ensued, with Ants and talented debutant Ali putting on 43 valuable runs before Ali was caught at gully following the first ball after drinks. Batsmen came and went at regular intervals, with a few getting set (especially Amit Gupta who in his own inimitable style smacked a huge straight six back over the bowler's head) and with a last wicket partnership of 37 FGCC ended on 156 all out.
In reply, Hawley's openers looked in good nick until Ali had Harris snagged by Dave Brown with a truly staggering diving catch. Imran Shafqat - another debutant - made his mark with two wickets, one inciting a Hawley batsmen to throw a tantrum of 'chairman'-esque proprotions. Jim and Amit Tawde bowled tightly, but with Jim's last over going for double-figures the run rate started to sneak up and up, and with conditions getting ever more difficult to bowl in and O.Short finishing on an unbeaten 70 - bringing up the winning runs with a huge 6 over mid-on - Hawley got home with 11 balls to spare.
