Barnes vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 24th August 2014, 13:30
Barnes (266/7) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (123/8) by 143 runs
Match Detail
Frimley Green, playing at Barnes' picturesque ground (electronic scoreboard and all) for the first time, were beaten comprehensively thanks to a fine hundred from opposition number 4 N Sewell. With Barnes winning the toss and batting first, opening bowlers Nick and Nug were taken to town early on, before Nug found began to find some prodigious swing to get opener A Campbell out LBW for a brisk 35. The spin twins Greaves and Barker settled things down somewhat in a quiet middle period before hungover number 5 T Camps began finding the boundary with incredible regularity. He was dismissed by a jaffa from Nug on his return to the attack, having scored a very quick 60, before Rus Edmonds began chipping away at the batting, taking 3 wickets. Sewell, who had anchored the innings excellently, reached his century with the final ball of the innings. FGCC struggled throughout their innings, with the score 0-1 after 25 balls, at which point number 3 Antony Johnson said "I've had enough of this" and promptly deposited opening bowler Hake over his head for a delightful 6 to open the scoring. Ants was excellent throughout and scored his first 26 runs in boundaries - 64646, one of them particularly huge - before reaching his 50 and remaining unbeaten. However, the opposition's total of 266 was never remotely under threat, with only Graeme Fleming, christening his bat with a fine 20, and Rus Edmonds, with a breezy 17, reaching double figures. Shahid Hussain, on his return to the side after a 2-year hiatus, may well have added to that list, but we'll never know as he was run out for a 2-ball duck! Nick Gates - this was your most expensive 8-over spell for the club. You did, however, go for 46 runs off 6 overs against Crown Taverners in 1996 (economy 7.66), your least economical spell, ahead of this match.
