FGCC won the toss on a baking hot day and chose to bat. After being 2 for 2 after 2 overs, the ship was steadied somewhat but still blowing way off course at 42 for 4 after 20 overs. Then three overs and two wickets later, No. 8 Nick Gates came to the crease. A cameo extraordinaire followed with 60 runs being smashed off 39 balls. Lovely timing throughout. Gordy held the innings together with a cracking 57. The Marsh-Gates partnership falling near the end and just six short of a century.
In reply, Farncombe showed their intent by getting off to a quick 50. There were then pegged back by some excellent bowling from MotM Nick Gates and the superb Paul Butt on season debut. Rus also chipped in with two wickets in two balls to leave Farncombe needing 40 runs from 6 overs with just 2 wickets remaining. Some timely fours from oppo MotM Dawkins and stout defending from old adversary No.11 Daniel Cripp left Farncombe needing 5 runs to win off the final over. The first ball of over 40 was dispatched out of the ground for six. Disappointing to be on the losing side but a fitting finale to a superb game of cricket.
: The cheers from the stands as firstly Nick, then Gordy reach then reach their fifties.
