Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Welford Park - Sunday 1st June 2008, 14:00
Welford Park (135/4) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (134/9) by 6 wickets
Match Detail
FGCC, ultimately defeated, can be proud of a decent effort against a strong side in Welford Park. Losing the toss and being inserted in difficult batting conditions, the Welford Park openers did an excellent job, reducing FGCC to 36/4. Libin and Khan did further damage with the ball before Nick Gates expertly steadied the ship - the 10th wicket partnership produced 38 runs, the last an unbroken 34 thanks to an excellent cameo from Jules Bland. Welford Park then got over the line with 6 wickets and 6.4 overs to spare. Excellent economy from Nick Gates wasn't enough, as only Tim Jones really threatened with the ball, taking 3 quick wickets. A few debatable wide calls rankled with David Huggett, who ultimately flipped his lid and called the umpire a "joker" and more besides. However, the wides didn't really affect the result and Welford Park were well worth the win.
