Welford Park vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 2nd September 2012, 14:00
Frimley Green Cricket Club (162/9) beat Welford Park (156 all out) by 6 runs
Match Detail
In a typically tight game against Welford Park, it was FGCC who emerged victorious in a hot-tempered and at times explosive match. Losing the toss and being put into bat, Cap'n Jim mixed up the batting order a little, giving Amit the chance to unleash a flurry of early strokes to the boundary before trying one too many and getting caught behind. With Rich soon departing to a ball which decided to misbehave (for his lowest score for the club it was later revealed), it was left to Jim and Greavsie to see off the opening attack. When they both departed JP and Dave Brown - in an unfamiliar middle order role - put together a partnership worth 79, bringing FGCC's total to a respectable 162 off 40 overs, Mike Parry weighing in with some belligerent blows towards the end. Welford Park's reply started in earnest, with Nick's first over going for 10. When Dave finally had Galbraith well-caught in the deep by Neil, and thanks to Jim's 2-wicket over dispensing with W.Herrington and Brook, things were starting to look good for FGCC. However, as so often happens in games between the two clubs some dropped catches, late slogging and a controversial umpiring decision (following a stump shattering delivery being called as an over waist-high no-ball) intervened. Nevertheless this did not deter Rich, who ended with his first 6fer for the club and a place on the all-time bowling honours board, nor Mike Parry, who after being cruelly denied a wicket with the no-ball fiasco took the final Welford Park scalp with a caught behind from the first ball of the 39th over. Another tight game, but a very, VERY satisfying result.
