Frimley Green Cricket Club vs GFI - Sunday 6th August 2006, 14:00

GFI (229 all out) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (218 all out) by 11 runs

Match Detail
GFI won this thrilling encounter, but FGCC nearly pulled off a spectacular run chase. GFI won the toss and chose to bat, and immediately put FGCC's opening bowlers to the sword. They were racing along at 10 an over for some time, until David Huggett bowled GFI captain Robin Hobbs for 49 with a ball that nipped back and caught the top of off stump. Huggett eked out 2 more of the top order, but the damage had already been done. Noel Long, however, took 3 inexpensive wickets to keep the score to manageable levels. With an unlikely target of 230 to win, FGCC made a real fight of it, pinch-hitter Nick Gates batting well for 27 runs at the top of the order, after which Mike McAuliffe chipped in, and Noel Long hit an excellent 40 from 45 balls. However, FGCC were losing wickets and needed a steady partnership. Cue the father-and-son act, Alwyn and David Huggett, who kept the score ticking over and took FGCC to within sight of victory, before being dismissed in quick succession, Alwyn for 45 from 40 balls, David for an FGCC-best 20 from 26. After that FGCC were always up against it, and when debutant Rachael Miskill was dismissed the final pairing needed 23 runs from the final 2 overs. Shahid Hussain hit some superb strokes to take 11 from the penultimate over, but Paul Butt's attempted drive was skied and well taken by the GFI wicketkeeper.
