Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Badshot Lea - Sunday 30th June 2013, 14:00
Frimley Green Cricket Club (122 all out) beat Badshot Lea (117 all out) by 5 runs
Match Detail
On a boiling hot day at Frimley Lodge Park, it was Rus Edmonds with career-best bowling figures that set things alight to give FGCC their first win of 2013. Winning the toss, FGCC went into bat with the returning Mark Russell making hay whilst the sun shone. His 37 included a number of boundaries, including one lustily-hit 6 over square leg. With some of the regulars floundering in the heat, some middle-order nurdling and big hitting from Mike Parry - desperate to try and win the "Alan Greaves Duckpond Challenge" (you had to be there) - gave the final score a slight air of respectability at 122 all out, albeit a seemingly gettable score given how Badshot Lea batted a few weeks prior. After a delicious tea served up by Greavsie and Yoko, BLCC openers S.Bull and Menzies seemed to enjoy the early exchanges, with a couple of huge hits into the thickets. However it was one of these that proved the straw that broke the camel's (or in this case R. Edmonds') back. With a well-disguised slower ball, Rus castled Menzies. With Mike taking a couple of wickets from the other end, he then set about putting the match out of Badshot Lea's reach by ripping through the middle order at a rate of knots, taking 3 scalps in a triple-wicket maiden over. With FGCC's second-string bowling attack weakened after Jim fell on his rear end taking a catch and then getting whacked in the shin trying to stop a ball going to the boundary, the delayed (due to leaves on the line?) Sam Acres took advantage and so very nearly swung the result with a well-made 40 not out. However, wise head Kevin set his field right, and when last man Nabil was snagged at short mid-off thanks to a diving catch by Parry the game was in the bag, much to the delight of a crocked captain and all FGCC players.
