Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Westfield Saints - Sunday 19th July 2015, 14:00
Westfield Saints (146/6) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (143 all out) by 4 wickets
Match Detail
A 6-week break from cricket may well have been the telling factor in this return fixture against Westfield Saints, although that didn't deter FGCC from at one point having a sniff at an unlikely victory. Winning the toss on a sunny day and electing to bat, Rich once again gave FGCC a solid start, forging a 42 and then 40-run partnership with Mark and Ants. However, from being at 100-2 in the 23rd over a collapse of England-esque proportions ensued, It was only Rich Furneaux making his FGCC debut that offered any resistance to some good bowling, making a patient 21 whilst chaos was happening around him. Some quick running towards the end edged the score towards a semblance of respectability, but this came at a huge price with a returning Jules tweaking his hamstring whilst scampering a single, putting him out of the bowling attack. Westfield's reply was measured, in spite of losing opener Irvine in the 2nd over. Some aggressive boundary hitting, no less from lefty Chris Burrows who was caught on the cusp of a 50 by a suddenly rejuvenated Jules, saw runs coming thick and fast, and for a while Westfield were cruising. However, thanks to wickets from Kev, Rich and Jim they were soon 6 down, leaving both results in the balance - could FGCC pull off a miracle? A noise - a nick to keeper? Did our very own 'waiter' Alan Greaves make an important breakthrough? Alas, no. And with that it was left for Wright and Thurley to see Westfield home with overs to spare, leaving FGCC still looking for their first win of 2015.
