Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Warfield - Sunday 30th August 2015, 14:00
Frimley Green Cricket Club (162/6) beat Warfield (156/6) by 6 runs
Match Detail
After celebrating a morale-boosting victory the previous week, FGCC were in no mood to let the momentum slip in the closely-fought game with Warfield. Losing the toss and batting first, Mike Parry deputised for an absent Rich, but alas there were no big-hitting heroics this time as he went seventh ball. This left Mark and Ants to build a solid platform, and with runs hard to come by on a damp track things were going slowly until drinks, by which time Ants and Graeme had both been dismissed. This set the scene for debutant Anam to enter the fray, and after a slow start balls started disappearing to the boundary with consummate ease. Anam's fine knock of 64 came off just 49 balls, and included 7 4s (four of these off consecutive balls) and 3 huge 6s. Providing some impetus to the proceedings, FGCC were free for batsman to play steadily rather than holing out. And this attitude was personified no better than by Mark, who not only brought up his first 50 for the club but also carried his bat - a fine achievement. Chasing just over 4 an over, Warfield's reply quickly hit trouble after opener Ethan Fuller unluckily played on to the ever miserly Nick Gates without scoring. Once again tight bowling (Nick's 8 overs going for just 14) and wickets at key times - including Anam's first for the club when Dan Torry holed out to Rus who took a superb catch at Fine Leg (as well as 2 key wickets) - was the order of the day. Some good batting by Dollard and Greeff briefly threatened, especially when Jim bought himself on to bowl and ended up going for 14 off his first two overs. However, the captain's blind faith in himself was rewarded after a switch to bowling round the wicket to dismiss Dollard LBW for a fine 49, followed by one that turned sharply to knock over Martin's stumps. With Warfield's run chase never climbing about the desired rate, it was left to Jim and new boy Anu to bowl out the final overs, and with men strategically placed on the boundary meaning only 1s and 2s were possible FGCC were able to scrape home for their second consecutive win - a feat that hasn't been achieved since 2012!
