Warfield vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 15th May 2016, 13:30
Warfield (173/5) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (135/9) by 38 runs
Match Detail
Despite a valiant effort with both bat and ball by new FGCC Vice-Captain Mark Russell, as well as some decent contributions by old stalwarts Kevin and Tim, FGCC fell to defeat in their first match of 2016. Losing the toss and fielding first, Kevin and Nug's early spells were particularly tight with the Warfield openers looking to play themselves in. Kevin struck in the 12th over, removing Birchall when the score was only 16. However this set the platform for a later acceleration by Taylor (who unfortunately had to retire hurt with a tweaked hamstring when the cusp of a 50) and Dollard, who after being dismissed for 49 the last time the two teams played decided attack was the best form of defense and decided to go after Jim and Rus' bowling on his way to a half-century. With a crocked Greavsie watching from the sidelines, Jim called the new Vice-Skip up to bowl and Mark did not disappoint, taking his first wicket for the club after the captain took the catch at mid-on to dismiss Douglas. In reply Tim and Mark batted with a mix of astute technique, heaves to leg-side and the odd bit of luck with both being dropped at least once. After Tim went Ants and Mark had worked their way to 103-1... and then the rot set in. 8 FGCC wickets fell for 32 runs, a collapsed best typified by an overly-eager Graeme who in an attempt to get off the mark immediately went for a single that wasn't there and ran out a bitterly disappointed Mark, who had racked up his second successive 50 - and a second in a row against Warfield - at nearly a run a ball. With Greavsie's arm wrapped in an ice-pack after a dropped catch off Jim's bowling (!) earlier in the game, the misfiring of Rus' Cannon brought an end to proceedings with FGCC still 30-odd runs shy.
