Ottershaw & Hamm Moor vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 17th July 2016, 14:00
Ottershaw & Hamm Moor (94/4) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (93/9) by 6 wickets
Match Detail
After nearly a month without cricket, it was a very rusty 10-man FGCC who fell to defeat against Ottershaw in this timed game despite the fine efforts of double centurion (he's not that old really) Kevin 'Rhino' Whitehorn. Batting first on a gorgeous hot day and with current Batting Trophy holder Rich making his season's debut in joining an in-form Vice Captain Mark, hopes were high for a long opening stand. This however didn't materialise when Mark nicked one to the keeper, and when Rich fell mis-timing and offering an easy chance that was easily snaffled an inexperienced middle-order was left to try and salvage some respectability. However, as has so often been the story this season the batting order folded meekly, with Nos. 4,5,7 and 8 managing 1 run between them. The only resistance came from the promising Suresh, who in playing his second game for the club top-scored along with Cap'n Jim, and along with the skipper the aforementioned Kevin, who in his 200th game batted well in trying conditions to end up 19*. With "Not-Out Nug" failing to live up to his billing, 93 all out seemed like a tame score on a good batting wicket and although this was eventually to be the case it wasn't for the want of trying on the part of Rich and Kev, who between bowled 21 overs for 54 runs, taking 2 wickets each (both bowlers having an LBW and a caught-and-bowled). At 72-4 there was still a chance that FGCC might cause a shock, but with rocksteady Ottershaw captain Steve batting as stoically as always the clatter of wickets that FGCC needed didn't come, and with plenty of time left on the clock the hosts cantered to a six-wicket victory.
