Hampton Woodlawn vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 2nd September 2018, 13:00
Hampton Woodlawn (168/6) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (120 all out) by 48 runs
Match Detail
In spite of a fine all-round performance by Anu, FGCC couldn't build on a decent bowling display as their batting against Hampton Woodlawn folded meekly in this 35-over-per-side game, played on a fine early September afternoon. Winning the toss and bowling first on a grassy track, Anam and Anurag bowled with accuracy and determination, Anam in particular causing havoc cleaning up both openers bowling round the wicket. With Anu chipping in HWCC were 61-3 off 18, and a tight score looked in the offing. However despite Jim having the dangerous Sharma well-stumped by Mark for 13, Hampton Woodlawn stepped on the gas towards the end of their innings, with Bhakadwa making 69 before being run out by Anam with an amazing direct hit from miles out. Sharp and Wakefield came in and ran between the wickets superbly as HWCC's innings came towards a close, and with a few silly misfields and a couple of drops they ended on a credible 168-6. Despite losing Suresh and Mark early on Anu played with typical flair and aggression, bringing up his second 50 for the club (and second in the last 3 matches) to see FGCC 19 runs ahead of HWCC's total at drinks. However, it was thereafter the rot set in, with slow spin bowling seeing batsman after batsman fail to play to the conditions. A 3-wicket over did for FGCC in truth, with Anu, Ajay and Aakaash all departing to Malhotra who ended up with a 5-fer. With Anam and Dean getting caught, and Anurag getting judged LBW in trying to smash a straight ball over square leg, FGCC's skipper was marooned on 1 when the innings ended more than 7 overs early, thus sealing the win for Hampton Woodlawn.
